Shriram Transport Finance gained over 8 per cent and hit fresh 52-week high of Rs 1,298 in early trade on Thursday after the company on Wednesday reported a rise of 23.6 per cent in its net profit at Rs 479.11 crore for second quarter ended September 30, 2017. Its net profit stood at Rs 387.65 crore in the corresponding July-September quarter of the previous fiscal.

Total revenue of the company jumped by 9.8 per cent from a year ago to Rs 2,979.92 crore during the second quarter of 2017-18 from Rs 2,713.59 crore earned in the same period of the previous fiscal.

Net interest income increased by 20.60 per cent to Rs 1,632.37 during the quarter under review from Rs 1,352.99 crore in the same period last year.

The scrip was trading 6.48 per cent up at Rs 1274.70 around 10.05 am (IST). Shares of the company opened at Rs 1,201 and touched a high and low of Rs 1,298 and Rs 1,201, respectively, in trade so far. Benchmark BSE Sensex was up 24 points, or 0.07 per cent, at 33,624 at around the same time.

On the BSE, 44,000 shares were traded on the counter so far as against average daily volumes of 38,000 shares in the past two weeks
