State Farm to close 11 facilities, affecting 4200 employees – AOL

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company has announced plans to consolidate its operations by closing eleven facilities across the U.S.

According to a news release posted by the home and auto insurer Thursday, two sites—in New Jersey and California—will be shut next year followed by three closures in 2019, four in 2020, and two in 2021.

The release further notes that “the work from these facilities will move to the company’s headquarters in Bloomington, IL., its offices in Atlanta, Dallas, and Phoenix, as well as a number of existing locations across the U.S.”

While the company attributes the change to a desire for improved efficiencies and enhanced customer service, Bloomberg points out that the company suffered “a $7 billion annual underwriting loss last year on auto policies.”

Approximately 4,200 jobs are expected to be affected including 620 in West Lafayette, Indiana, 600 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and 530 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
