Earlier this month, there was a cafeteria brawl at Alcorn State University’s Lorman, Miss., campus. The fight produced some jarring images, with lots of running, screaming, and violent punching. Here’s one video, which, again, is jarring:
The fight apparently spilled into a parking lot. Deadspin found this video, which shows more yelling and includes someone being stomped on in a fray:
Eleven Alcorn football players were originally arrested in connection with the fight, and seven more player arrests were made on Thursday in connection with the brawl, the Clarion-Ledger reported.
“These are students who were involved in the incident who were harmed,” the country sheriff told the Ledger. The paper has more on the arrested players:
The players arrested include: sophomore defensive back Lei’shaun Ealey, sophomore defensive back Deago Sama, freshman defensive back Taurence Wilson, freshman defensive back Javen Morrison, junior defensive back Daniel Franklin, sophomore linebacker Terry Whittington, sophomore linebacker Trae Ferrell, freshman defensive lineman Kwanzi Jackson, sophomore defensive back Quintin Smith, junior defensive end Michael Brooks and junior defensive back Jalen Thomas.
The charges against the players are all misdemeanors, and range from malicious mischief to simple assault.
ESPN published a statement from the school:
“Maintaining a safe and secure campus community is the institution’s top priority,” Alcorn State said in a statement. “Campus police investigate all instances of student misconduct thoroughly and appropriate disciplinary actions are implemented in accordance with Alcorn’s student code of conduct.”
Alcorn plays in the SWAC, in the Football Championship Subdivision. The Braves went 5-6 last season under head coach Fred McNair, the brother of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair.
